A Glimpse of Spring in Minnesota

Oh, what a glorious few days we’ve had. A little over a week ago, it was subzero. Today, 60+. During that time, climbing seasons collided.

In Sandstone, MN last weekend, ice climbers were abundant at the Sandstone Ice Park. However, I arrived with friend and youth coach, Tyler, to soak in the sun and rising temps while rock climbing. Temptation got the better of us, though, and Coach threw on my boots and crampons and took a couple laps on some waiting ropes before we moved on to lead the classic 5.12, Sigma. Later, we drove to the other side of the river with some pads and climbed the River Boulder, which was basking in the afternoon sun.

After a warm up climb and a lap on Sigma, we tackled a bouldering project that I had lingering from last year with great success.

Following the weekend, the guardians of Willow announced conditions were prime and the season was on!

And so, a couple of days later, I made my way out there with local strongmen, Randy and Kurt.

So psyched to be back at Willow working the project. I foresee a send sometime this spring.

Get out there and get after it, friends. The time is nigh.
